Position: 1.0 FTE Special Education Teacher / RISE Program

Location: Lewis Mills High School

Reports to: Building Administrator/Special Education Director

Starting Date: With the commencement of the 2025-2026 school year

 

The Special Education Teacher for the RISE Program is a key member of our school’s social, emotional, and behavioral support team. Region 10 supports high school students who require increased social/emotional/behavioral support to be successful in the public-school environment through our RISE teacher and staff. Our goal is to Realize Individual Student Excellence by providing increased behavioral support and promoting prosocial engagement within the school community. The continuum of supports available focuses on increasing skills and strategies to improve social, academic and emotional functioning. Emphasis is placed on building the student’s self-esteem, self-confidence and skills to promote success and general wellbeing, which is critical for integration into the community and educational advancement. The position works in collaboration with our Student Support Team including our Special Education Coordinator, BCBA, School Social Workers, School Psychologist, Behavior Techs, and School Counselors.

 

Qualifications:             

 

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas:

 

§  CT Endorsement 065, 165, or 265-Comprehensive Special Education Teacher

§  Expertise in Behavior Management, Trauma Informed Practices, and Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Skill Development.

·         Ability to prepare student specific plans and develop creative teaching and learning activities which reflect sound teaching principles and meet physical, emotional, and educational needs of students.

·         Provide a classroom environment that effectively supports the instructional program and activities, and that supports the needs of each student.

·         Develop and maintain a professional relationship with ongoing dialog and collaboration with parent/caregiver/guardian regarding student's progress.

·         Supervise and support behavior technicians and paraprofessionals.  Provide clear communication, plans, and modeling to these professionals and collaborate extensively to ensure student progress.

·         Strong collaboration, communication, case management and organization skills are essential for this position.  This position must provide strong case management for students across grade levels with multiple teachers and providers.
