Job Description:

E.O. Smith High School is seeking a long-term substitute social worker who is a motivated, enthusiastic, and thoughtful individual who will contribute to our school's diversity through their teaching, scholarship, and/or service to the institution.

The social worker/support service counselor will work with a team of professionals providing services to students attending our Depot program and EO Smith High School. Our social workers and school counselors provide and support the delivery of specific skills and information in a proactive, preventative manner to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve school success. Collaboration with student support services personnel and school staff in the delivery of services is part of our daily practice. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
Possess a current Connecticut Educator Certificate: Social Worker (071) or School Counselor (068)

Possess qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with all stakeholders

Experience in crisis counseling and trauma intervention

Experience conducting small-group counseling to assist in the growth and development of student SEL

Has experience with conducting small group counseling to assist in the growth and development of student SEL 

Demonstrate understanding of or have experience in providing culturally relevant instruction


RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Ensure student-centered learning by promoting academic, social-emotional, and college/career readiness skills

Actively support and provide individual and group counseling to students

Advocate as a change agent to improve access, equity, achievement and opportunity for all students

Work collaboratively with school staff, parents and community to maximize student success 

Effectively support students in the progression of student SEL   

Generate and analyze data to inform support-service practice

Actively participate in department and school-wide professional development and school-sponsored events

SALARY: In accordance with the agreement between the Region 19 Board of Education and the Region 19 Teachers' Association, the 2026-27 salary range is up to $56,491 (Pro-rated).
