Location: Lewis Mills High School

Reports to: Building Administrator/Special Education Director 

Starting Date: with the commencement of the 2026-2027 school year

The School Social Worker plays a vital role in supporting the healthy development of students within the entire school community, with a particular focus on students in our RISE and BEST programs. The Social Worker provides both direct and indirect services through interventions, instructional support, and counseling to help students build social-emotional skills and strengthen mental health competencies.

A key responsibility of this position is addressing barriers to learning by offering proactive, preventative, and responsive services to students, families, and the school community. The Social Worker is a key member of the team and must have strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with all stakeholders, including students, families, teachers, BTs, and related service providers.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with students who present with significant mental health or behavioral challenges and who may be at risk of more restrictive placements. This individual will be skilled at teaching coping and social skills, developing student resilience, and fostering inclusion so that students can succeed within the least restrictive environment.

Qualifications:              
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas: 
CT Endorsement 071- School Social Worker 

Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

Contribute to a positive school climate 

Ability to provide high-quality professional services and sound practice to the whole school community in accordance with Connecticut Practice Guidelines for Delivery of School Social Work Services

Experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of learning, behavioral, and social challenges, including emotional disturbance, autism, intellectual disabilities, high functioning autism, and/or school refusal 

Ability to provide a variety of intervention approaches across the mental health spectrum. 

Ability to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data and make appropriate changes in response to that data 

Work proactively and collaboratively with team members for individual student and whole-school outcomes 

Knowledge or practice in the areas of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and/or Scientifically Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) 

Ability to work collaboratively with teams, community service providers, state agencies, outside service providers, and families 

Demonstrate teacher-leadership qualities to bring initiative and innovation to the department in the above areas
